Preserved @ Watershed Studioworks - Avondale, Chicago, IL

  • Watershed Studioworks 3016 West Belmont Avenue Chicago, IL United States (map)

Watershed Studioworks presents Preserved, an exhibition of recent work by Holly Hanson. Opening reception Friday, May 15, 6-9pm.

Preserved considers self-preservation as an internal, ongoing negotiation of identity.

At its core, the work examines the tension of multiplicity—the identities we move between, inhabit, and hold all at once. These are not sequential shifts, but overlapping states: fragile and solid, intuitive and rational, grounded and adrift.  Through the physical layering of materials, the work manifests a constant internal pressure where opposing realities coexist, unresolved.

The work centers on the effort to maintain surface coherence while chaos, instability, and accumulations of the past persist at the edges of experience. In this space, time is not linear; past and present are held simultaneously, shaping how identity is carried and expressed.

Preserved is a study in remaining intact within contradiction—an exploration of the resilience required to stay whole without resolution or collapse.
